Pashmina Shawls
Pashmina shawls, also known as "ring
shawls' (because they can pass through a woman's ring) are made from
the finest materials from the orient. This is so elegant and luxurious
you'll love it at first sight. It conveys not only affluence but also
taste and elegance. Stunning over an evening gown for special
occasions, finer than regular shawls and lighter in weight makes these
shawls ideal for cool summer evenings, practically weightless (just
less than 150 grams). Find out more information about this and their
history by visiting our "What is Pashmina" section.
Our styles and colors section lets you
shop for all of the different pure pashmina shawls and wraps
available. The colors are chosen by our buyers to insure classic
colors are available as well as the latest trends. For centuries
pashmina has been a hallmark of sophistication and beauty. This rare
fiber has graced the wardrobes of history's most discerning women of
taste. We specialize in beautiful pashmina shawls imported from the
different places.
What is Pashmina anyway?
Pashmina is a wool derived from the undercoats of Himilayan goats
known as Capra Hircus. The tougher, coarser hair from the rest of the
goat has been used by the weavers of Kashmir to create fine fabric
known in the West as "cashmere" is defined as any wool 16 to 19
microns thick. Pashmina is defined as cashmere which is 12 - 14
microns thick. Since pashmina is the finer wool derived from the
undercoat, pashmina is finer and softer than regular woolen shawl.
Most pashmina is woven in Nepal. Harvesting the wool does not harm the
goats. Pashmina is collected from the goats when they shed during
warmer temperatures. The wool of 3 goats is required to produce each
pashmina shawl making it a highly prized and valuable fabric.
Pashmina are also made from incredibly fine wool, though not as fine
as the shahtoosh. They are more affordable, They also have a sheen to
them, and are available in spectacular colours. This types of shawls
are obtained from the wool of goats raised by semi-nomadic herders in
the mountainous regions of Tibet and Central Asia. While toosh shawls
could be embroidered, the embroidery rarely looks as rich as it does
on a pashmina shawl. You can get most colours to order, and double
shaded pashminas are all the rage. Match them to your favorite saris,
and be the most elegant lady at the party. You could also opt for silk
pashminas, which are even more reasonable. Indulge yourself or someone
you love in the ultimate wrap that will give a lifetime of pleasure.
Because each of these shawls is handcrafted, color variations and
texture variations are normal. This gives our shawls a finer, more
luxurious feel. All of our pashminas have hand-knotted tassels. Your
pashmina should always be stored in a cool dry place and cleaned only
by a professional dry cleaner.
The Blue Turban sells 100% pashmina as well as made from the finest
pashmina wool on a silk foundation our ring pashminas are a blend of
pashmina and silk in a 70:30 ratio, both are available( Dry clean only
